Description
Rome, with its more than 2000 years of history, is unique
among European cities. It was the cradle of one of the
oldest civilizations than governed and had influence
on towns and cultures throughout a territory that includes
most of Europe, North Africa and part of the Middle
East. Its civilization has left its mark in all the
fields of human knowledge: arts, laws, engineering,
architecture, theater, social organization, etc. Rome
is the only city, non only in Europe but also in Italy,
that such a rich and diverse inheritance has, that goes
from Classicism until the late Renaissance. But Rome
is also a modern and dynamic city, with 4 million inhabitants,
84 theaters, 70 museums, 75 cinemas, an indefinite number
of restaurants and a stimulating cultural agenda. The
school is situated in the centre of Rome just a short
walk from the central railway station and conveniently
placed for transport to every area of the city. In the
school, a five-floors Liberty style villa, there are
11 classrooms. In addition, there are 15 other classrooms
in the two annexes situated 50m from the main building.
Lodging
The school is able to arrange any sort of accommodation
required, from a standard hotel, Bed & Breakfast,
to cheaper accommodation with host-families or in shared
flats with other students of the school.
Academics
Dilit adopted a fully communicative approach to the
teaching of Italian. Language is never presented out
of context; and grammar, phonology, lexis and all is
use in everyday situations. A wide variety of up-to-date
authentic material is used in class, thus giving the
students valuable information about modern-day Italian
culture and society at the same time as developing the
students' authentic linguistic and communicative skills.
Amongst the principal techniques and procedures employed
in class are: communicative tasks, group work, and dramatisation.
The accent is on activity rather than on passive receptivity.
Activities
During the afternoons the students can extend their
knowledge of Italian choosing between some of the following
courses: Italian for business, art and culture, Roman
archaeology, Photography, Italian cuisine and wines.
The school organizes a complete and diverse program
of social activities: each week there are three Italian
films, a seminar on one of the following topics: History,
Literature, Italian Cinema, Italian cuisine, Italian
Wine, Regions and Towns in Italy, and two guided tours
in Rome. Every fortnight there is a party or a spaghettata
at the Student's Club. Each month the school organises
a full day excursion (Saturday) to places of interest
close to Rome (Naples, Pompei, Siena, Assisi, San Gimignano
etc). In addition there are also evenings at the opera
or theatre, concerts and visits to exhibitions.
