Tourism in Italy
In Italy one not only can be dazzled with the beauty of its more famous cities such as Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice or Milan but also be surprised with the splendour of the less well-known cities, villages and towns. Italy is full of history, art, traditions and incredible food. If you wants to find out more about tourism in Italy , please click here.

Lazio
Rome is the capital of the Lazio. The attraction of the Eternal City is big, as capital of the Christianity, home of the popes and an amazing architectonic and artistic legacy. The enchantment of Rome cannot be resisted, but also it is worth to taste and spend some days "exploring" the Lazio itself, to discover a region of great natural and environmental fascination, with an extraordinary variety of landscapes: beaches, great pine groves, mounts such as the Terminillo (optimal ski centre), hills and extensive plains. A region rich in Art monuments , that immediately remembers its extraordinary history. In Tarquinia, Cerveteri and Tuscany, the necropolis and the museums remember to the old and mysterious town of the Etruscans (VII-VI centuries b. C.) that dominated central Italy before Rome.
The Roman legacies are countless in the outskirts of Rome, other provinces of the Lazio and in the main cities like Rieti, Viterbo, Latina and Frosinone. We remembered the splendid villa Adriana de Tívoli (where is also the Renaissance villa d'East), the palace Barberini di Palestrina of the 17th century , or the cathedral of Anagni. The same Roman religious magnificence projects and is duplicated outside Rome: the abbeys of the Mount Cassino , Casamari, Fossanova and in the monasteries of Subiaco, places loved by San Benito de Norcia. That is: Lazio is not only Rome. Rome is also the Lazio . If you want to find out more about tourism in Rome, please click here.

Calabria
Thanks to the irresistible attraction of the "Bronzes of Riace", two wonderful recovered Greek statues in the sea (one of them is attributed to Fidias, great Greek sculptor of the 5th century b.C.) visit Calabria thousands of visitors.
This way, many of them have finally discovered, with great surprise, a gorgeous earth, a uncontaminated sea, wild and exuberant nature and even, unsuspected architectonic and art pieces. Calabria, an extraordinary and fascinating land. Of exquisite beauty, an example is the Purple Codex, exceptional Greek liturgical book of the 6th century conserved in the Diocesan Museum of Rossano, written with splendid silver-plated letters and illustrated with and very elegant religious figures and scenes. The spectacular coast of Tropea, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, represents an impressive surprise for those who see it for the first time. But in Calabria, as we said, the surprises never finish.

Tuscany
In Tuscany it was born and developed, between the 14th and 16th centuries , the huge time of the Humanism and the Renaissance, movements that radically innovated the culture and art of their time, leaving a deep track in the European civilization. From that extraordinary historical period, Tuscany beginning by Florence, its capital city, keeps the greatest examples. Beautiful works of civil and religious architecture, sculptures and pictorial works of extraordinary artistic value, examples of the creative work of geniuses such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Filippo Brunelleschi. But Tuscany is not only Florence.
It is Siena, with its “Piazza del Campo” and all the summers theater of the famous Palio. In the province of Siena (famous by its exquisite wines like the Chianti and the Brunello) stand out Montepulciano and Pienza extraordinary Renaissance jewels and San Gimignano, with their famous towers.
Then, it is Pisa famous by his renowned inclined Tower; Carrara with its cathedral made of the precious marble that gives the name to the city and Luca, Pistoya, Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno and Prato, that also have churches and other monuments of great architectonic and artistic value. Tuscany has countless natural beauties. Between all, its landscape: the typical, unique and cosy Tuscan landscape .If you wants to find out more about tourism in Florence, please click here.

Veneto
Who says Veneto thinks about Venice: the Piazza San Marcos, the great lagoon, gondolas in the Great Channel, the bridge of the Sighs, the wild Carnival, the huge architectures, the art masterpieces, the sumptuous palaces, its magical streets, the International Film Festival, the Biennial of the Art, La Fenice Theater, the prestigious universities, the numerous signs of the splendour and the richness of the marine power that dominated the Mediterranean for five centuries.
But the Veneto is not only Venice and the sea. The Veneto mountains exhibit scenes of unusual beauty. The Dolomitic Alps seen from Curtain d'Ampezzo, famous town of the province of Belluno, are a huge show. And all the area of the delta of the Po river, in the province of Rovigo, is a unique natural place.
In Padua, an old and very cultural city, the majestic basilica that guards the relics of Saint Anthony attracts every year million of travellers. The attraction of the Paladianas villas called by the name of its author, the great architect Andrea Palladio who in the 16th century projected and constructed buildings that still today provoke admiration and astonishment by their harmonious beauty, like the Roundhouse of Vicenza. In Verona, the city immortalized by Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet, during the summer, is almost an obligation to participate of the opera in the Arena. Umbry
Those who visit Umbria sooner or later end up thinking that Saint Francisco, the great and poetic saint of rejoicing and docility, could only be born here, in these places of eternal green, charming, radiating nature. Umbria has such a monumental and artistic component that the concept of "historical center" seems to be inadequate and restrictive.
Perugia for example, complex and magnificent, with amazing architectonic works and art treasures: the Etruscan walls, the splendid Gallenga palace, historical home of the prestigious university for foreigners and many other buildings and monuments that are in the 4th of November square, overwhelmed with architectonic and artistic masterpieces such as the Mayor fountain and the magnificent palace of the Priors.
The same happens to the splendid Gubbio, rich in Franciscan memories and full of monuments of medieval and Renaissance time. And also Todi, Spello, Espoleto, Orvieto, City of Castello and many other cities: beautiful places with incredible monuments, palaces, churches of important artistic value. The same Terni, a modern industrial city, has true jewels such as the churches of San Salvador and San Francisco and in the neighborhoods, a natural masterpiece such as the spectacular Marble cataract. In order to finish, Asis, the native city of Saint Francisco (and Saint Clara, founder of the order of the clarisas), one of the Christian universally well-known places always full of visitors. Impossible not to go.

Sicily
Sicily (Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Siracusa) had the most beautiful cities of the Greek world. To visit the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento or to attend a show in the huge Greek theater of Siracusa in summer, is a jump to the remote past. The same happens in all Sicily, many traditions and civilizations, the Spanish and French legacies, and even the with Arab dominion. Sicily is a compendium of the greatest civilizations and cultures. A sunny island, with a rich nature, a splendid coast and diverse, refined and tasteful gastronomy, of old flavors and exquisite aromas: the quintessence of the "mediterranean", and also a complex culture, very well represented by the literary masterpieces of Luiggi Pirandello, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Leonardo Sciascia, Gesualdo Bufalino and Andrea Camilleri.
Each style and trend is represented in an outstanding way in Sicily in cities such as Palermo, Catania, Caltanissetta, Enna, Siracusa, Ragusa, Trapani, Agrigento and Mesina. And also in the smaller centers such as Cefalú, grouped around the Norman cathedral, or Noto, with its extraordinary baroque cathedral , or Taormina, with its splendid greco-Roman theater.

Piedmont
Turin is the capital of the Piedmont. It is a magical city, considered the capital of the Italian industry (the Fiat headquarters are here, one of the biggest manufacturers of automobiles of the world) and also one of greatest tourist attraction points of Italy. In the cathedral of the city of Turin, the Saint Shroud is guarded, the old linen sheet in which, according to the tradition, was surrounded the body of Christ when he was lowered from the Cross.
In Turin is the Egyptian Museum, that keeps an extraordinary collection of Old Egypt art and the gallery of the Savoy, rich in artworks of important European artists. In Turin are monumental works that certify the main role that had Piedmont in Italian history during the last centuries, such as the House of Savoy (dynasty that reigned in Italy until 1946) and first capital of the Italian Kingdom: the Royal Palace, Madama Palace, the Antonelliana Mass, the Royal Stupinigi villa.
The natural scenes are splendid and diverse: valleys, hills (famous "langhe", where many stories of Caesar Pavese and Beppe Fenoglio are developed, famous Piedmont writers), lakes (Mayor, Orta, Viverone), the national park of the Valgrande. The gastronomical and wine tradition is rich and prestigious (some of the best Italian wines are from Piedmont).

Lombardy
Lombardy is the richest and most populated region of Italy and for this reason, one of the most surprising and unexpected regions for the tourist who arrives without knowing much of the artistic, natural and historical patrimony of Lombardy. Milan, for example, is a great city of industries and trade. Everything is trendy and developed in Milan: from the technological innovation to the fashion world, from the advertisement to the design, the life styles or the "political experiments".
However, under its imposing aspect of modern and dynamic metropolis , everything projected towards the future, Milan keeps extraordinary architectonic and artistic treasures. The only difficult thing is to choose: from the cathedral to the Sforzesco castle, from the Theater alla Scala to the gallery of Brera. And in Lombardy, the splendid natural landscapes (the lakes, the park of the Stelvio), monuments and artworks of great value. In Monza, Varese, Cuomo, Bergamo, Brescia, Pavia, Lodi and Cremona every era has left its cultural and artistic signs: in the city-planning structures, the churches, and the buildings.

Emilia-Romagna
The porches that protect and shade the strolls of the streets of the historical center in Bologna, is full of colours of the parasols in sunny Romagna beaches. The modern city is dynamic, rich, but still able to conserve its human aspect, and the extensive coast are crowded with tourists who arrive captivated by the irresistible combination: sun-sea-fun.
This is Emilia-Romagna and there is still much more, beginning by its extraordinary historical, artistic and cultural patrimony . One of the most prosperous regions of Italy, Emilia-Romaña is a gigantic chest with monumental jewels and artistic masterpieces, with old and famous universities, modern centers of artistic and cultural education.
In Bologna, home of the oldest Italian university (11th century), there are countless monuments of important artistic level. Among these the two old ones stand out, spectacular towers of the Asinelli and the Garisenda, both located in the Playa Mayor, with their great medieval buildings and the gothic cathedral of San Petronio, where Charles V was crowned emperor in 1530.
In the outskirts of Bologna, it is worth to visit the Byzantine artworks of Ravenna, the medieval baptistery of Benedetto Antelami in Parma, the Malatestian temple of Rimini, the Romanesque church of San Mercurial in Forlí, the old palace of Plasencia, the sanctuary of the Virgin of Ghiara from the XVII century in Reggio Emilia, the splendid Estense gallery of Módena and the harmonious and still intact historical center of Ferrara.
